the mission

finding the right balance

At The Nell Project, we explore themes around work and life with the intention of getting closer and closer to our dream life.

I'm so happy you're here

The Nell Project has been years in the making. I’m Chanelle (Nell to those close to me), and I’m obsessed with the idea of finding the right balance in life. My biggest inspiration is the notion that we’re all a work in progress, an ongoing project that means it’s OK if life isn’t perfect. It means it’s OK to learn and grow and change priorities.

So, this blog is dedicated those of us who embrace being a work in progress. Whether you’re smashing career goals or still finding your way, in love or flying solo, renting a room or renovating a house, the fun childless Aunt or proud parent to a cactus, dog, or human – we’re all on a journey. Hopefully one that brings us closer to our best selves and our dream life, whatever that means to you.

who am I?

I’m a senior executive in Media / Advertising, mom to a pup called Lexi, and a baby boy called Beau, and wife to Mr Watsy. I’m all of these things, but they don’t necessarily define me.

I’ve struggled with finding balance for most of my adult life, and no more so than after becoming a mom.

I worked too hard for much of my 20s and played pretty hard, too. By my mid-30s, I was “successful” and had moved across the world through work, but I was totally, utterly burned out. Things looked pretty good for me from the outside. On the inside, I was sick, lost, depressed and lonely. Luckily, through coaches, friends, family, mentors, colleagues, books, and the media, I’ve collected tons of tips that have given me a good dose of comfort, direction, adventures, and laughs.

why am i writing about balance?

Because I want to have a badass career and have a life too. I want it all obvs. But I realize that I need support and tools to achieve this. Like figuring out priorities, optimizing how I spend my time, and creating time for myself (and friends and family).

I don’t think I’m alone in these goals, so The Nell Project is a forum for me to express myself. I hope others can learn from and share their tips and life lessons.

MY EXPERIENCE

In my professional career, I’ve worked with brands like Microsoft, Amazon, FedEx, JM Smucker Company, Spring, Virgin Voyages, Reynolds Consumer Products. I’ve managed teams of hundreds, and enjoy helping people thrive.

I am on the Board of Directors for Bideawee, and am a Certified Professional Coach.

I’ve traveled the world through work, and at 36 was named in AdAge’s 40 Under 40 in 2019.
